date idea: letterpress class & the happy hooker
Here's my second post to my date idea series, whether it's for your better half, your friend or your sibling! We started the night off at Graven Feather at Queen West for a letterpress class, it was absolute design nerd heaven for me. The experience of picking out type, setting them, rolling ink, giving it the satisfying press and producing something by hand was thrilling for me. I wanted to make everything from "call in sick" coasters to birthday cards to thank you cards. After this class, I don't think I'll ever take Indesign for granted again. I can't imagine how typesetters use to type set newspapers back then without going crazy! They hold letterpress classes every month, as well as linocut, printmaking and bookbinding classes.
After the class, we crossed through Trinity Bellwoods to The Happy Hooker where they serve all things fishy. I had the fried oyster slider which was so so so incredibly good and it was much bigger than I anticipated, almost the size of a full burger at just $4! My friend had the grouper taco, also very good and shared the fish and chips. The fish was flaky and the batter was light, just how I like it!
