eat it: Lamesa Filipino Kitchen

I randomly saw a Buytopia deal for Lamesa for a 3 course dinner with a glass of wine for 2 for $49 awhile ago. It had been on my radar for a long time and I especially wanted to try their Sunday Hand to Mouth dinners. I am very wary about Groupon deals (and also Summerlicious and Winterlicious) because I've been burned too many times with reputable restaurants. The point of a groupon deal is to give the customer a memorable dining experience with food that will make them want to come back for more at regular price. But there hasn't been too many groupon dealed restaurants that were able to woo me back.

Lamesa's service right off the bat was attentive, they were polite and  they explained the food that was brought to the table in detail. We had the talong salad, which is grilled eggplant with salted egg, baby tomato and puffed rice and the sweet potato lumpia which looked like spring rolls with sweet potato inside. The sweet potato lumpia blew me away, it's definitely something I would come back to order. For the mains, we ordered the fried milkfish and the grilled chicken adobo. The fish belly on that milkfish was to die for! For dessert, we had the langka cake which is made of jackfruit and rhubarb and the ube leche flan which is made of purple yam. I probably could have ate 5 ube flans, give me anything taro flavoured and you'll have me salivating.

Nick is the picky eater out of the both of us and bringing him to a new restaurant always makes me nervous. There are only 5 restaurants in Toronto that Nick has given the nod of approval for our date night restaurants and Lamesa has just joined the list.
