Dinner Party Series: Remote Island Retreat

For May, we wanted to throw a Kamayan dinner, something that we both enjoy tremendously. We love gathering people that we love around a table, put food on the table for everyone to share and everyone eats with their hands.

Decor
I practised making these flower balloons a week before, they are a lot easier to make that I thought and this tutorial really helped. Her polka dot balloons were so cute I made sure to get some too. The fringe garlands are also really easy to make and make a big impact. Here's the tutorial. We also bought banana leaves from Chinatown to cover the coffee table.

Food
Pineapple Chow: This is my favourite dish to make as an appetizer. It's so easy to make and it needs to be done the day before so the herbs (we used parsley this time because I forgot to buy chado beni) to really sink into the fruit.
Garlic Sushi Rice
Grilled Makarel
Miso Honey Corn: This was my favourite dish of the night, Nick glazed the corn with a miso and honey mixture that had me wanting seconds.
Garlic shrimp
Mango and apple chutney: We placed different sauces down the middle for our guests to try with different foods.
Rosemary roasted potatoes
Fried plantain with dolce de leche
