eat it: FRONT ST. FOODS

After what felt like a century of construction in front of Union Station, we've finally come out of the other side! What replaced the gigantic hole they dug up is now a beautiful sidewalk. To celebrate and thank the frustrated commuters who have had to put up with the chaos, they've set up Front St. Foods, a food market that opens at 7 in the morning till 9 at night. I've had a chance to stop by twice, once in the morning where a couple of vendors were open like Hula Girl Espresso, Fred's Bread, Bacon Nation and Uncle Tetsu and their ever long line up. The beau and I committed to waking up early and snuck in a morning breakfast date and got to the market at 8. We shared focaccia from Fred's Bread, chocolate banana loaf, spinach pastry and butter coffee from Hula Girl. There were ample seating since it was the morning and we had a lovely 45 minutes people watching and catching up. The second time I went was after work at 6pm for dinner. The place was hopping and I had to troll for a seat. I couldn't say no to the croissant dog from  Holy Chuck, it's a beef hot dog in a croissant with smokey bacon bits and topped with chips (I opted out of the fried egg on top). It's as delicious as it sounds and had me craving more. To balance the meal out, I had a cup of corn with chilli, mayo and lime topped with Parmesan from The Mighty Cob but it did get a bit too saucy near the bottom. And what's a meal without dessert? My friend and I shared 3 churros from I Love Churros on the steps in front of Union, people watching and pigeon ducking.
