eat it: Make Your Own Pizza

The best kind of pizza is the one you make yourself.  Dufferin Grove Park has pizza days on Wednesday and Sundays from 12pm-2pm. For $2.50, you get a ball of dough, tomato sauce, cheese and access to the herb garden. To start, head over to the rolling station to start rolling out the dough. Next, get a peal and cover it up with lots of corn meal so the pizza doesn't stick and put your rolled out dough on it. Spread tomato sauce and cheese over top and don't forget to bring extra toppings. We brought spinach, sliced tomatoes and cut up prosciutto. I picked fresh oregano, garlic chives and sage from the herb garden for extra toppings. We brought our pizza over to the oven and the staff popped it in to bake. After we got our pizzas back, we found a shaded area to put down my picnic blanket, munch on our pizzas, people watch and even took a little snooze. Even Nick who likes to think he's a pizza connoisseur can't stop raving about how delicious it was. Just a tip, we were eager beavers and got there at 12:15 when there were tons of families with young children making pizzas. Next time I would go at 1:15 after the frenzy has died down so we can savour the experience.
