November's Glow is out already, our third issue with the new redesign and I'm just having more and more fun with the design. I tracked down an ugly monkey at a crazy basement prop house for our style files this issue. We glammed the monkey up with some pearls and I nearly died when I saw what Rodney, the stylist came up with.
I can't believe fall is upon us, this past weekend was perfect for staying in with some hot soup and reading a magazine. Glow's October issue is on news stand now and you'll have to check out the fun hair dye story I designed. We found the best glove and applicator in box dyes and dissect how bronde and baby lights. In the style section, Rei Breidis styled a mountain of boots and I had so much fun sourcing little climbing people and cutting them out.
I've been really busy at Glow, we did a major redesign for our September issue. It is now jam packed with entry points, livened it up with punchy colours and injected a whole lotta fun. Not one section went amiss and I must say, I'm really proud of what the team has pulled together. The magazine is sitting on top of my coffee table and I can't help but flip through it every once in a while, it's just so so pretty. And as always, I had so many talented photographers, stylists and editors help put my dream pages together.
3 years ago, I joined the Glow team to put out the 2012 May issue, how fast time flies. This issue I put my collage skills to work and made a collage for Silver Streak, celebrating how the fashion and beauty industries are spotlighting women in their 50s plus category. The other collage was for Bold Face, celebrating Maybelline's 100th anniversary. Cheers to another 3 more years working with very talented photographers, stylists and an amazing team that allows me to be as creative as I want.
Christmas seems to have come a lot earlier this year, maybe it's because it got cold so quickly. The winter issue of Glow is on newsstands and with it comes delicious pancakes shot by Andrew Grinton. There's also a beautiful hair illustration by Nini Tuan, a wonderful piece about Thierry Mugler and their newest face, Georgia May Jagger which I created a collage for and the last page spotlighting the Guerlain Meteorites Aquarella Collection shot by Carlo Mendoza. And last but not least, It wouldn't be a holiday issue without a gift guide.
It's been so chilly lately, I would love to wrap myself in the grey sweater the model has on in our November's Glow cover. This issue, I worked with Andrew Grinton and prop styled our "Two's Company" food shoot. Crispy fish and a side salad, how much simpler can dinner get? Rodney Smith helped style glittery nail polish for our back page. I gave contents a refresh and created mandalas using cosmetics. I've been on a mandala trip lately, check out my sticker art mandalas on Etsy. Lastly, Marcel George did a wonderful illustration for our story about Asian influences in skincare.
It feels like one issue goes to bed and another issue is right on it's coat tails. I'm extra thankful this week after having read this blogger's love letter to Glow. It's so wonderful to know that our readers are really loving the editorial stories we produce and it resonates with them. It gives me that extra drive to make our next issues better and better.
In our October issue, Peter Tamlin and I went down to the Sherbourne Commons to shoot our fitness frontis. Have you been to this park? It's right next to the Corus building on Lakeshore. The water park is great on a hot summer day.
Aren't those star shaped lipstick to die for? Of course only Anna Sui would come up with something like that. The wonderful Rodney Smith styled it for us.
How delicious do those pistachio and chocolate dipped pretzels look? I couldn't stop eating them on set!
Beauty products don't always look the prettiest, so I gave Karolina Kierat the task to incorporate them to her illustration. It turned out so lovely.
Lastly I put together collages of four inspiring women which was a nice little challenge for me seeing as I haven't ventured into the world of collages in awhile.
Are you obsessed with Orange is the New Black as I am? I'm counting down the days to June 6th for their second season to start. I can't get enough of Crazy Eyes! Check out our interview with Taylor Schilling in our summer issue. This issue I flexed my illustration muscles and drew out some options to cool down this summer and a story about a super healthy personal trainer who ignored the signs her body was giving her and had two minor heart attacks! On our last page, the very talented Paige styled Urban Decays Electric Pressed Pigment Palette so beautifully!
