Eat it: Antler Kitchen and Bar

Venison Patty

Venison Patty

I heed by the saying "Don't knock it till you've tried it." So naturally when it comes to food, I'll try anything once. Bring on the pig intestines, the cow heart and my favourite, cow tongue. So when Antler Kitchen and Bar came onto my radar, I was all game.

We had the venison patty to start with, it was quite large and I suggest sharing it with another person. The pastry was flaky and the meat was tasty. A great start to the meal. My friend and I shared two mains. I had read great reviews on the rabbit pappardelle and even the waiter said it was his favourite. I had only had rabbit once before and it was cut in chunks, I remember not liking the smell and haven't had it since. The rabbit in the pappardelle was braised and pulled and paired with buttered leeks and sautéed greens. The sauce was heavy which complimented the large pappardelle noodles. It was by far the best part of our meal. We also shared  the game burger which was made of wild boar, bison and deer meat, also very tasty and rich.

To end the night, we shared the smoked cheddar apple tart with a side of vanilla ice cream. The smokiness threw me off a little but none the less, it was a good dessert.

On a side note, the service I received was excellent. I had come into the restaurant on a freezing night and the waiter could tell I was frozen from head to toe. I asked for a cup of hot water which made me feel like a grandma but I needed to defrost myself. Throughout the entire night, he kept coming by with a fresh cup of hot water for me, it was so thoughtful of him!

All in all, I was thoroughly satisfied with Antler, I would like to come back to try their rack of deer next.
